Director of Safety
Scott Humphrey has partnered with a client looking for a dynamic and experienced Director of Safety to lead their organization’s safety program and ensure the highest standards of workplace safety across all construction sites. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the construction industry, a proven ability to implement and maintain safety protocols, and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety excellence.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage the organization’s comprehensive safety programs and policies in alignment with regulatory requirements and company objectives.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure a safety-first culture across all levels of the organization.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential risks, enforce safety standards, and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee accident investigations to determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and ensure proper reporting.
- Design and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and leadership teams.
- Develop site-specific safety plans and toolbox talks to address project needs.
- Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and field teams to implement safety initiatives effectively.
- Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on safety-related issues and emerging risks.
- Establish safety performance metrics and goals, monitoring progress and effectiveness over time.
- Prepare and present detailed safety reports, including incident rates, compliance status, and recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of safety leadership experience in the construction industry.
- Proven track record of managing safety programs for large-scale construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, safety regulations, and construction safety best practices.
- Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or similar credentials.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to influence and educate diverse teams.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks and implement solutions effectively.
- Commitment to fostering a safety-oriented culture.
